As a botanist and lover of all flora, I tend not to classify anything as a weed, per se, but some species can certainly be.. far more aggressive than others, yes. If your duckweed is anything like the duckweed I know, aerating the water can help a great deal. Excess duckweed and algae can easily throw off the balance of the ecosystem.
