( Fu Xuan isn't sure why her opinion was needed on a matter concerning the alchemists, only that someone had stumbled into a potentially dangerous substance and they'd like her opinion on whether or not to destroy it and all the research. Which she agreed to, on account of there needing to be someone to make that call and the general himself likely would just foist the matter off onto someone else if they tried to get him involved. So Fu Xuan makes the choice to get involved herself, and then bring the report to the General after.
That is still the plan. Except she'd gotten a face full of the stuff because someone had tripped into the table and sending the fine powder to settle over her. She'd breathed it in, too, much to the horror of the Alchemy Commission. They'd almost insisted on having her see the High Elder, but Fu Xuan had assured them she felt fine. They'd made her promise to return if anything was amiss, since the powder had been created to, what was it? "Encourage short lived species to procreate," that was it. She would divine the best course of action after she'd cleaned off and reported to the general.
Except that something is wrong. She hadn't noticed at first, but now -- standing in front of a lounging Jing Yuan, she can tell that whatever that substance was has finally worked its way through her system. First came the realization that, for all his... less industrious qualities and advanced age, Jing Yuan remained a rather attractive man, all told. She can see why there was a bustling trade of photocards of him amongst those who lived on the Luofu. Likely off, too, but they didn't have the pleasure of working alongside him-- pleasure?
Fu Xuan cuts herself off at the thought. It doesn't do much to stop the heat she feels slowly winding its way through her limbs, settling low in her stomach at the thought of 'Jing Yuan' and 'pleasure' together.
It isn't that Fu Xuan doesn't respect Jing Yuan. She does, of course, as does everyone on the Xianzhou Luofu. But she is also aware of his increasing age and the desperate need to make sure that there is a successor in place and ready for whenever the time comes that he can no longer continue being general. The upheaval will be bad enough if he decides to fight back; it is her job to set the course for the Luofu as best she can -- and that includes minimizing the causalities when Jing Yuan becomes mara-struck. That he refuses to budge on the matter is infuriating. The man is infuriating!
Her hands slam down on the desk in front of him, eyes wide and dark. )
I-- that is-- ( No! Why can't she remember what she was about to accuse him of? Fu Xuan is never mortified, and she certainly isn't going to start now. ) Perhaps the substance is more potent than I previously had assumed.
